GolfMark, which was recently re-launched, is England Golf’s official seal of approval for clubs successfully working to develop their business in such ways as:

• Attracting new members and encouraging existing members to play more • Using practical business planning to develop the club • Offering appropriate coaching and playing opportunities for all standards of golfer • Ensuring all necessary safeguarding policies are in place for the junior section

Horne Park is conveniently situated in rural Surrey, just a short drive from major motorway networks, and it offers a range of playing and coaching opportunities to appeal to players of all abilities. Facilities include a nine hole course with 18 tees, a 20-bay driving range, putting and chipping practice greens, an indoor golf simulator, Trackman and an indoor putting studio.

Its ‘My Golf Academy’ – formerly the Mike Yorke Golf Academy – was opened shortly after owner Neil Burke bought the club in 2003 and he says: “Since the introduction of the academy we have seen coaching go from strength to strength. We continue to look at different ways to attract youngsters, in particular, into the game of golf and have a number of outreach programmes within Tandridge.”

He added: “We are delighted to be the first club in Surrey to receive this accreditation and to show that the club has the correct processes in place to ensure the members, visitors and staff alike all receive an excellent experience at the club.”

Caroline Hardy-Evans, one of the Surrey County Development Officers, presented the award and said: “I’m so pleased for Horne Park, they have worked really hard and continue to embrace change to ensure the longevity of the club.

“Their coaching programme ‘My Golf Academy’ is an outstanding example of how to engage with players, new and existing, especially juniors and this philosophy is not just shared by the staff but their members.”

The GolfMark award was developed by England Golf and also integrates Sport England’s Clubmark award - a national standard for quality sports clubs recognised across the country.

GolfMark brings a number of benefits to clubs including raising awareness, access to funding, business and marketing support and training opportunities for staff and volunteers.

Almost 40 per cent of GolfMark clubs have increased membership since receiving the award. To find out more about GolfMark visit To find out more about Horne Park please visit
