Premium golf clothing brand Galvin Green intends to build on the success of its first year supporting the popular PGA Assistants’ Championship by introducing new prize incentives for aspiring winners in 2016.
As part of its innovative sponsorship of the event, Galvin Green will reward winners of this year’s seven regional qualifying events with high-performance clothing, plus provide the overnight leader in each round of the Championship final with a different coloured Ventil8™ shirt to transmit their achievement to a wider audience.
These prizes are in addition to the champion being rewarded with the status and profile of an official Galvin Green Tour player for the year, which comes with a complete golfing wardrobe selected during a visit to the brand’s UK headquarters.
The tournament prize fund is £32,000 with a first prize of £5,000. The winner also receives entry into the PGA Futures Championship in Australia, plus the opportunity to compete for a place in the Scottish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth via the end-of-season PGA Play-Offs in Turkey.

The 2016 Galvin Green PGA Assistants’ Championship final (3-5 August) will be held at a new venue for the first time in three years – Little Aston Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield, where 120 assistant professionals will compete over 54 holes for the title.
In another first, all seven regional qualifying events will be played within three weeks of each other in May at some of Great Britain & Ireland’s most challenging venues, including Craigielaw, County Meath and Purdis Heath.
Around 950 assistant professionals are eligible to compete in the Championship, which boasts the highest percentage entrance rate of any PGA tournament for qualified players.
The PGA’s longest-running event was established in 1930 – pre-dating the US Masters by four years – and is notoriously difficult to win, with players only eligible to compete during their three years of training.
Past winners include former Open champion and Ryder Cup captain Tony Jacklin and legendary TV commentator Peter Alliss.
Galvin Green first sponsored the event last year, when Jack Harrison of Wildwood Golf Club near Guildford, Surrey, won by four shots at the Coventry Golf Club and was presented with the prestigious trophy by TV presenter Dan Walker.
