County Championship 22-24 April held at Hankley Common GC.

Alice Spani-Molella, Royal Mid-Surrey, takes the title in a thrilling finale.

The Surrey Ladies Championship commenced at Hankley Common GC on Friday 22nd of April with 54 participants playing 36 holes in cold, difficult conditions.

Annabell Fuller (Roehampton) age 13, lead the field with a score of 149 gross followed closely in 2nd place by Katie Fewster (Worplesdon) and Alice Spani-Molella (Royal Mid-Surrey), tied on 150.

The top 16 players progressed into the quarter finals, scratch matchplay, on Saturday 23rd of April leaving the semi-finals and final to be played on Sunday 24th April.

In the semi-finals, Annabell Fuller beat Amber Chana (Foxhills) 3/2 and Alice Spani-Molella beat Eleanor Lace (Royal Mid Surrey) 1up. There had been the possibility of Annabell playing Eleanor in the final, aged (13 and 12 respectively) which would have been a Surrey Championship record.

The afternoon final between Annabell and Alice proved to be very exciting and full of outstanding golf, with each player having 3 birdies and the match going to the 19th hole, which Alice birdied to win and become Surrey County champion.

Alice started playing golf at Cannes Mandelieu in France aged 11, represented France U16 and then took a break from golf to study law. She joined Royal Mid Surrey in 2006 and her last international tournament was the British International Stroke Play in 2012.
