PUTTENHAM GOLF CLUB VICTORIOUS IN THE 3RD ANNUAL CHIP & PUTT CHALLENGE MATCH

PUTTENHAM GOLF CLUB VICTORIOUS IN THE 3RD ANNUAL CHIP & PUTT CHALLENGE MATCH Guildford June 26th 2017: In 2015, Puttenham Chairman Colin Reardon contacted the general Manager at Chippenham Golf Club as he’d heard via a golfing journalist that Chippenham had “thrown down the gauntlet” and challenged Puttenham to a “Chip & Putt” match. Following a visit to Chippenham by Colin and ladies captain, Sarah Dyason, the format of the competition was agreed and thus the Annual Chip & Putt Challenge” was founded. Interestingly, both clubs were founded within a couple of years of each other – Puttenham in 1894 and Chippenham in 1896. Following the first two years, it was clear that the competition was going to be a success and so a trophy was commissioned with Puttenham’s immediate past men’s captain, Mike Smith, designing and sourcing a very apt putter head and 7-iron being mounted on a wooden background. With the scores at one match apiece after the 2015 and 2016 matches interest was high to see which club would pull out in front as the 3rd Challenge Match took place on Saturday 26th June. After much anticipation, it proved to be a one-sided affair as hosts Puttenham took advantage of local knowledge to win with a convincing 5 – 1 score line. Paul Lye, Men’s Captain of Chippenham Golf Club commented “Without doubt a great day and long may this relationship continue! We all enjoyed the day and the camaraderie.” Colin Reardon, Chairman of Puttenham Golf Club stated “Everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we look forward to competing again next year at Chippenham”
