Raitt closes out at Betchworth Park

Flawless 66 claims another title for PGA Cup man

The PGA in Surrey champion Andy Raitt shot an immaculate three-under-par 66* to notch up his fifth victory of the season so far, the Betchworth Park Pro-Am.

Picking up £700, the St George’s Hill star commented on his third win in 10 days: “I’m playing well this season, but my course management was the key to the round. I was surprised with the scoring, but I guess that reflects that I know the course well enough to know when to go for birdies and when to be happy with pars.”

Playing in close to ideal conditions, Raitt reeled off three birdies on the 5th, 9th and 11th to put himself three strokes ahead of the nearest competitors, the threesome of Lee-on-the-Solent’s James Ablett, Pyecombe’s Mark James and multiple winner David Copsey from DCGS Poult Wood.

While Raitt shots pars and birdies, the nearest contenders each had up and down rounds for their 69s, with Ablett and Copsey making four bogeys and birdies, while James had six of each.

In the team event Nico Els (Professional Golf Tuition Breaks) led his team of three Betchworth Park lady members to a two shot win with -13.
