With two 18-hole golf courses, a majestic clubhouse and extensive practice facilities Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club is a club that really does have it all.
A tranquil oasis in the heart of Richmond, surrounded by the world-famous Kew Gardens and bordered by the River Thames, one almost forgets that the Club is just 20 minutes by road from the West End of London and five minutes’ walk from Richmond Station.
Both 18-hole courses (the JH Taylor and the Pam Barton) have been upgraded in recent years to maintain the standards and challenges set by the legendary JH Taylor, a five-time Open Champion and the Club’s first professional.
The JH Taylor course is a rolling parkland layout in keeping with the ‘humps and hollows’ of Taylor’s original design. A par-69 (Standard Scratch 72) and 6,402 yards off the white tees, it offers a real challenge for golfers of all abilities, especially those confronted with varying wind directions. All 18 greens have been constructed to USGA specification.
With impressive views across to Kew Gardens and its spectacular Pagoda, the quality of the course was rewarded with the staging of the Men's Surrey County Championships and the English Women's Open Amateur Matchplay Championship in 2017.
Although shorter than the JH Taylor course, the Pam Barton course is challenging course, with cleverly designed holes that will test the best players’ course management skills. The course is home to annual The Mothers & Daughters Open Championship which has been played annually since 1932.
Royal Mid-Surrey is open to visitor golf on weekdays and offers special packages for golf groups of more than 12 players including per and post golf catering to the highest standards.
The clubhouse provides members, guests and visitors with access to numerous bars and private rooms, each with a different ambience and charm.
With three private function rooms, the largest of which can accommodate up to 140 people, each area can be set-up for private dining and entertainment. Two of these rooms have panoramic views over Royal Mid-Surrey’s golf courses.
The recently renovated Proshop has a wide range of clothing and golf equipment. The eight-strong professional team provides lessons to both beginners and seasoned golfers whilst also offering 6-month academy packages for both adults and juniors.
The Club is widely recognised as being sociable and welcoming with a busy annual calendar for its members.
