PAGET ADDS PACHESHAM TO ACADEMY & RETAIL PORTFOLIO

Premium coaching & brands to feature at revitalised golf centre

Matthew Paget, who heads up the Academy and Pro Shop at Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club in Richmond and three other golf courses in Kent and Sussex, has added Pachesham in Leatherhead to his MP Golf coaching and retail portfolio.

Paget, who began his career in golf at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in 1991, has acquired the license to operate the Pachesham Golf Academy where Justin Rose once had short game lessons from specialist coach Mark Roe. He has also taken over the management of the former American Golf retail space at the site located close to Junction 9 on the M25 and the nearby A3.

In addition to Royal Mid-Surrey, which has one of the most successful golf retail operations in the London area, Paget also operates flourishing pro shops in Kent and Sussex at Walmer & Kingsdown (Deal), Cherry Lodge (Biggin Hill) and Nevill Golf Club (Tunbridge Wells).

“I’m really excited at the prospect of taking on the challenge of growing the business at the Pachesham Academy and expanding the retail operation to its full potential,” said Matthew, who picked up Pro Shop of the Year Award for his work at Royal Mid-Surrey in 2012 and supervised a successful refit last year. “The new shop at Pachesham will feature extensive selections from many leading premium golf brands designed to appeal to avid golfers in the Surrey commuter belt and the new coaching regime will specialise on improving the customer’s short game.

“We’ve already worked closely with owner Phil Taylor over recent weeks to put our plans in place and I’m confident that those who are familiar with the well-placed facility will notice the difference, while newcomers of all abilities will find a great set up to either learn or improve their golf game,” he added.

Open seven days a week, Pachesham offers Surrey’s longest floodlit driving range at 350 yards and a ‘pay & play’ six-hole course of over 2,000 yards, plus a sizeable practice area including two putting greens. It also features one of the few indoor Sam Lab putting chambers in the county and a popular café area.

“Pachesham has it all in terms of existing golf facilities and location. All it needs now is refinement of the product and greater awareness among the target market and we’re well on our way to delivering on those factors,” added Paget.
