THE CHRISTIES CUP FINAL

(Junior Club Team Knock Out)

Played at Sunbury Golf Club

This Junior Club competition is open to all affiliated Surrey Clubs Junior sections. The format is three players in each Club team playing singles Stableford (full handicap allowance) played over 18 holes, in 2balls. The best two cards from each team will count but if there is a tie the 3rd card will then count. If the teams are still a tied, then a sudden death Stableford score play off between the first named players will decide the winning team. The winners go onto represent Surrey in the England Golf Club Junior Team Tournament the following year and host the following years final, unless they get to the final again, when a neutral venue is found.

This year’s Final was between, Windlesham represented by Joe Silcock, Thomas White & Josh Gates and Burhill represented by Elliott MacGregor, Jamie Pritchard & Ben Wilson.

The teams arrived at Sunbury on a beautiful sunny day, with Surrey Secretary Steve McNeill welcoming everybody and starting the teams off on the 1st tee.

The course played well, with the greens in good condition and getting a mention from the players, who all enjoyed the course.

The pace of play was excellent with the first pair taking less than 3 hours to complete the 18 holes and the others close behind, so well done to all the boys. In the end it was Windlesham who convincingly took the honours with a two-card score of 83 points, Josh Gates with the best of the day 44pts, followed by Joe Silcock 39pts and Josh Gates backing them up with 38pts. Burhill gave it their all but it just wasn’t going to be their day, they came up against a team who were in excellent form.

Both teams had done fantastic just to get to the final, battling their way through several previous rounds during the season.
