Ann Waite and Ross Galgut (both from Walton Heath) played Marcelle Jansen and Neil Manwaring (Tyrrells Wood) in a very close final at Betchworth Park on Sunday 13 October. There was never more than a 1 hole advantage by either pair in the match.
After 15 holes the match was still all square. The turning was the birdie on the 16th by the Walton Heath pair. A great putt on the 17th by Neil to half the hole made the 18th all the more exciting. Walton Heath prevailed by the closest of margins when Ross holed a tricky 5 foot putt on the 18th for a half in five and victory. A relief for the spectators as they were not looking forward to the long uphill walk back to the 1st hole!
Albeit at different times, Jill Thornhill and her late husband John were the first husband and wife within Surrey to have held the positions of County Captain and County President. S.L.C.G.A. runs this mixed foursome knockout jointly with S.C.G.L. in recognition of the remarkable achievements of this couple. Jill Thornhill presented the trophy to the winning pair.
