Seniors Team Knock Out for the John Ling Salver

Hankley Common Golf Club Thursday 17th October.

This year’s final was played between Camberley Heath and Tandridge, the format is a ten a side Four Ball Better ball match-play, all games are played to a finish to ensure there cannot be a tie.

To reach the Final, both teams had to win their way through five rounds. Camberley Heath had received a bye in the first round but then went onto defeat Woldingham, Hersham & Mitcham to reach the Semi-Finals where they won against Purley Downs. Tandridge not having received a bye beat Addington Palace, Guildford, Royal Mid Surrey and Betchworth Park where they went on to meet and beat Effingham in the semi-final.

The pairings were:

Camberley Heath: Mark Sansom & Dave Martin, Roger Bayley & Richard Broderick, Gerd Janssen & Wally Watton, Mark O’Rourke & Kevin Warner, Mike Franzkowiak & Mike Penny.

Tandridge: Andrew Bernard & Jeremy Wilson, Jeremy Richards & Alan Hodge, Steve Davies & Michael Kelly, Robert Calnan & Neale Houlden, Roderick Bayne-Jardine & Martin Murch

Despite the earlier down pour of rain, the course was in excellent condition and even the sun put in an appearance during the afternoon.

Camberley Heath took a two nil lead winning the first two matches 2&1 and 4&3 but Tandridge rallied and won the 3rd match 1up and the 4th 2&1 leaving it all down to the last match. Coming down the 18th Tandridge were 1up which meant Camberley Heath had to win the hole to force a playoff but Tandridge held their nerve winning the last hole to win the game 2&1 and the match. It was a closely contested match with some excellent golf being played and in the true spirit of the game.

After some welcome food the presentations were completed by John Buchanan (County President).

Congratulations to Tandridge the John Ling Salver Team Champions for 2019.
