Seniors Team Knock Out for the John Ling Trophy

Wentworth Golf Club Thursday 17th October.

This year’s final was played between Bramley and West Byfleet, the format is ten a side Four Ball Better ball match-play, all games are played to a finish to ensure there cannot be a tie.

To get to the Final both teams had won their way through five rounds. Bramley had defeated Betchworth Park, Malden, West Hill, and Wimbledon Park to reach the Semi-Finals where they won against Kingswood. In the first round West Byfleet beat Tandridge (who went onto win the Salver Final), they then overcame Farnham, Silvermere and Puttenham to get to the Semi-Finals where they beat Burhill.

The pairings were

Bramley: Steve Duffy & John Drinkhill, Kevin Sauvarin & David J Hunter, Peter Silcox & Chris Burridge, Terry Vermigle & Jim Tuck, and Brett Norris & Richard West.

West Byfleet: Chris Davies & Martyn Eley, Andy Blagden & Chris Golding, Keith Mannering & Tony Roche, Tom McMahon & Bill Quain, and Vince Davis & Geoff Bartlett.

The final was played on the Edinburgh course and despite the course being very wet in places and playing longer than normal it was in good condition. There was some rain early on but thankfully the weather brightened up much to the relief of everyone. All the matches got underway on time.

West Byfleet took a two nil lead winning the first two matches 1up and had already won the final match before the third and fourth matches got to the 18th, both of these matches were all square but as West Byfleet had an unassailable 3-0 lead it was decided there was no point in them carrying on to a conclusion. The players from both sides had given their all in some difficult conditions and all the matches were played in great spirit, this carried on afterwards when the players had some food and the presentations were completed by Terry Christy (County Chairman).

Congratulations to West Byfleet the John Ling Seniors Club Team Champions for 2019.
