ICONIC SEVE IMAGES CONJURE UP SPECIAL OPEN MEMORIES

-Extra copies of top-selling book made available during 150th Open week -

Few images conjure up fonder memories of The Open Championship at St Andrews than the iconic photographs of Seve Ballesteros celebrating his birdie putt on the 18th green to win his second Claret Jug in 1984.

As part of the 150th Open celebrations at The Home of Golf next week, extra copies of the book Seve: His Life Through the Lens will be available for sale and author David Cannon - the photographer who took those images from the edge of the green 38 years ago - will be signing copies of his acclaimed book at Toppings bookshop in St Andrews on Saturday 16 July (7-8pm).

He will also be present during a special ‘meet the authors’ event at The R&A World Golf Museum, St Andrews on Tuesday 12 July (from 5.30pm) where a host of golf's finest writers will discuss their books and answer questions from the audience.

Seve: His Life Through the Lens, which has been met with huge global demand since its release in May 2021, charts the playing career of the legendary Spanish golfer, with portraits from many of his 95 global wins enroute to becoming the best European golfer of his generation and an inspirational Ryder Cup star.

“I was very fortunate to be one a few photographers to capture the unforgettable sequence of photographs that are tied so closely to Seve’s Open Championship legacy at St Andrews,” said Getty Images photographer Cannon. “Returning for the 150th Open where it all happened brings back such fond memories and I can’t wait to share my book with golf fans who are coming to visit the historic venue where Seve showed such skill and passion,” he added.

Detailing both Seve’s life on and off the course, the book features stories from golfing legends including Nick Faldo and Jose Maria Olazábal as they define what made the swashbuckling Spaniard such a seminal figure and one that so many golf fans around the world still idolise. Readers will also be able to see never before published photographs from the Ballesteros family collection, providing a special insight into Seve’s life as a husband and father.

Both the standard and collector's edition versions of the book will also be available for purchase throughout the week from the Golf Museum at St Andrews, where a floor area has been devoted to the life of Seve.
