James Brash wins the U16 Championship & Leo Ferrini the U15 Championship

The best score of the morning came from Max Gibbs, who shot a very good round of 71 (level par). Hot on Max’s heels after round one was James Brash and Luke Rice, who both shot rounds of 72 (+1). Much like at the U17&U18 Championships, there were lots of players still in contention for the title heading into round two, with 9 players within 5 shots of Max’s lead.

Leo Ferrini took the early clubhouse lead after shooting a very impressive second round 70 (-1) to go with his morning 76, to give him a two-round total of 146 (+4). Since Leo was an U15, time would tell whether this score would be enough for Leo to clinch the U15 Championship.

Leo’s score would remain at the top of the leaderboard until the very last group of the day came in, when Luke Rice posted a second round 71 to give him a two-round total of 143 (+1). Unfortunately for Luke, this would ultimately come up just short, due to James Brash playing some brilliant golf.

After shooting a first round 72, James was 2-under for his second round through 8 holes, before making a triple bogey 6 on the par-3 ninth hole. However, unperturbed by this, James played a flawless back 9 consisting of 5 pars and 4 birdies, to come home in 30 and shoot a fantastic second round of 68 (-3)!

This gave James a two-round total of 140 (-2), and this meant that he was crowned Surrey U16 Champion 2023! As it turned out, none of the other U15 players were able to better Leo’s total score of 146, and so he took home the U15 Championship trophy!

The final results were as follows:

1st - Leo Ferrini (Wentworth) - 146 (+4)

2nd - Josh Thompson (Wentworth) - 150 (+8)
