Finca Cortesin Hotel, Golf & Spa’s position at the forefront of the luxury global golf market has received a glowing new endorsement after being ranked number one in an updated list of the ‘100 Best Golf Resorts in Europe’.
The deluxe venue in Andalusia, southern Spain, regained its place at the top of respected website Leadingcourses.com’s new rankings list of Europe’s elite golf resorts – the third time in the last four years that it has won the accolade.
Voted for jointly by golfers and resort visitors to the Leading Courses website and reviews posted on hotel partner Booking.com’s site, each venue was marked out of ten for the quality of its hotel and golf facilities.
Finca Cortesin scored an impressive average rating of 9.4 out of 10 to regain first place ahead of some of the most celebrated venues in European golf including Trump Turnberry, Monte Rei and The Gleneagles Hotel.
Featuring around 25,000 courses in 139 countries, the Leadingcourses.com website also includes more than 600,000 hotels, resorts and villas and is available in nine languages, enabling it to reach 96 per cent of European golfers in their mother tongue.
Jeroen Korving, founder and managing director of Leadingcourses.com, said: “This is the third time in five editions of the ranking that Finca Cortesin has come in first place.
“That is an achievement that everybody at the resort can be extremely proud of as this ranking reflects the opinions of real visitor, the people who matter the most, and we would like to congratulate everybody at Finca Cortesin on this great success."
René Zimmer, general manager at Finca Cortesin Hotel, Golf & Spa, said: “Finishing top in any award is a great honour, but to be ranked as Europe’s best golf resort three times in the last four years is incredible.
“The prime focus of everyone at the resort is to offer our guests the ultimate luxury golf and hotel experience. To this end, we have made a number of recent upgrades to our golf and lifestyle facilities, and it’s great to see all the hard work being rewarded in this way.”
The latest award to be bestowed on Finca Cortesin follows a hugely successful 2019 which included the resort’s Hotel Cortesin being voted number one in the ‘Top 20 Hotels in Spain & Portugal’ category in the Condé Nast Traveler magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards 2019.
Opened in March 2006 and set across a vast 532-acre estate, Finca Cortesin – which extended its membership of the prestigious European Tour Destinations Network this month – is regarded among Europe’s most exclusive modern golf and lifestyle destination resorts.
Set in the rolling hills of southern Spain, between Marbella and Sotogrande, with the Mediterranean to one side and the tranquil Casares Mountains to the other, Finca Cortesin’s 18-hole championship course was designed by Cabell Robinson and has hosted numerous high-profile tournaments – including the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012. It is the first venue in Spain to feature a new, eco-friendly variety of Bermuda grass on all its greens.
Complementing the par-72 layout are outstanding practice facilities including Finca Cortesin’s recently-upgraded Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy, which features the very latest golf-swing technology as well as offering an exclusive five-star club-fitting experience using equipment from some of the game’s top golf club brands including Honma Golf – global leaders in the manufacture of premium golf equipment.
Finca Cortesin’s other world-class facilities include an elegant 67-suite hotel; a 6,000sqm Beach Club; an award-winning spa featuring Spain’s only snow cave; and the choice of four restaurants.
