Leading Spanish venue included in inaugural global ranking of Top 100 X Factor Courses
Renowned for delivering an outstanding golf challenge amid some of the most breathtaking views in European golf, the Links course at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort is a must-play on any golfer’s list, and the Spanish venue is celebrating fresh international acclaim after being named in a new industry ranking of the world’s leading ‘X Factor’ courses.
The par-72 layout, which sits in a privileged setting overlooking the Mediterranean with the Rock of Gibraltar providing the spectacular backdrop, was rated 67th in Golf World’s inaugural list of the ‘World’s Top 100 X Factor Courses’.
The Links course, which underwent a major redesign and renovation by American architect Kurtis Bowman in 2022, was one of only two Spanish courses to feature in the poll alongside Valderrama, one of Europe’s most iconic golf venues.
Celebrating world golf’s most beautiful venues, the inaugural ranking features courses from six continents and 34 different countries including Augusta National – home of The Masters – which was ranked number one.
Announcing its verdict, the Top 100 Courses panel said: “(The Links is) an exhilarating course with endless views of the Mediterranean Sea and Gibraltar from the elevated fairways of this reworked Andalusian course. (It has) views for miles and miles.”
Located in the Cadiz municipality of San Roque and offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and the coast of North Africa, La Hacienda has undertaken a major overhaul of its golf and lifestyle amenities in the last five years that has transformed it into one of Europe’s premier 36-hole golf resorts.
At the heart of the work undertaken has been the improvements made to its two 18-hole championship course – the Links and the Heathland – and its golf academy facilities, which have all undergone major upgrades to enhance the luxury golf experience offered to guests. In addition, a new clubhouse and halfway house have been opened, while the resort strengthened its international reputation for golf and lifestyle in 2025 with the opening of the five-star Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol resort.
