Excitement is starting to build as the eagerly-awaited new Dunas Golf Course at Terras da Comporta in Portugal nears completion, and its new owners have turned to Azalea to further raise its profile ahead of the layout opening in summer 2023.

Vanguard Properties, the largest real estate developer in Portugal, took ownership of the spectacular Terras da Comporta development in 2019 and the site features two plots: Torre, comprising 365 hectares of land in the Alcácer do Sal municipality, and Dunas, which occupies around 1,011 hectares of land in the Grândola municipality.

Situated on the coast one hour south of Lisbon in a secluded setting on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, The Dunas Course is one of two 18-hole championship layouts that is planned at the multi-million euro development and has been designed by world-renowned architect David McLay-Kidd.

Originally launched by McLay-Kidd in 2010, the links-style course has been built using the highest sustainable practices and created over 84 hectares of natural, sandy terrain that is predicted to lead to comparisons with some of the most famous golfing venues in the world when it opens next summer.

Complementing The Dunas Course will be a new clubhouse and golf academy. Away from the fairways, an array of lifestyle activities will be available including horseriding, wellness and sailing, with a wide range of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums also on offer.

Rodrigo Ulrich, director of golf at Terras da Comporta, said: “The unique stretch of unspoiled coastline and the surrounding area give us an incredible opportunity to create a golf destination which I believe will attract attention on an international scale. Vanguard Properties works with some of the best suppliers in the industry, and I am delighted that we have been able to add Azalea to that list.”

Renowned as a leading player in the golf and tourism industry, Azalea works with some of Europe’s major tourist boards, flagship golf clubs, luxury resorts and leading brands, with vast experience in launching new courses, enhancing reputation and raising brand awareness.

Azalea director, Andy Barwell, said: “People in the golf industry have known about Terras da Comporta for some time, and we’re thrilled to have been given the opportinity to work on such an exciting new project. With the ambitious plans that the owners have in place, Terras da Comporta is a name that’s going to be on every golfer’s lips in the years to come and we can’t wait to get started.”
